Al Cairo.....(Veteran freelance producer, director and writer for over 50 of America's top Corporations.)
Layne West's book, The Shifting Sands is a "Grabber" right from the beginning; due largely to the visceral first person narrative used to acquaint us with "Aaron the Warrior." The author's impeccable visual descriptions titillate the reader's vision of the situations and surroundings.
"Layne West " is a novelist with extreme literary courage to risk unleashing such an extravagant imagination with carefree abandon.

Sue Harrod.....(Literary critique "The Midwestern")
I began reading this book very much a skeptic.  I critique horror, ("Steven King, Anne Rice, and Dean Koontz) but The Shifting Sands was refreshing change of pace.  This erotic love story with a mythological spin quite surprised me with the clever twists of plot and the excitement, frustrations and joy brought by love as it catches the unwilling heart.
There were times that I just couldn't put the book down until the end of the chapter and then I couldn't wait to pick it back up again to see how Aaron, Samanda, Kaybra and their army would handle their trials and tribulations, while all the time Aaron was quietly struggling against his rising desire for the beautiful Samanda who seems determined to provoke him at every opportunity.
The women in this book are strong willed, sexually charged individuals who are not left to the mercy of anyone or anything. In fact, they are capable of not only defending themselves but also taking what they desire.
I honestly wondered how everything would finally fit together. When it did, it led to an ending that left me craving for the sequel.

Shirley Holliday.....A reviewer
As you begin this book, the reader is taken back to a mythological time when half-women/half-creature still existed.  Romance quickly becomes a key component, as the warrior would do anything to help the widowed Queen save her kingdom.  Paranormal experiences are intricately woven into this sensually, romantic story.  The story (author) does a wonderful job keeping the reader engaged, and leaves the reader anxious for the sequel.........You will not want to put this book down!!!

John Burroughs....A Reviewer
Written by Layne West (former Mayor of Oregon, Illinois), The Shifting Sands:  An Epic Tale of Ancient Erotic Intrigue, Romance and Adventure is an erotically charged fantasy novel about a past world that could have been, when monsters ravaged humanity.  One female monster in particular has devoted herself to devouring humans engaged in sexual congress, so as to prevent procreation; other monsters specifically seek to castrate men and ingest their seed.  Virile men are a rarity, women are desperate for sexual partners, the widowed Queen is losing her mind, and the human race is in imminent danger of extinction.  Passion, excitement, courage, violence, and raw, dripping sensuality bring The Shifting Sands to a red-hot boil.
