THE SHIFTING SANDS
PART II
PRELUDE

The long golden brown hair that the early morning desert winds toss about belongs to England’s most renown female explorer; Dr. of Anthropology, Archeology and Paleontology at Brighton University, Ms. Melanie Silkwood. She is a beautiful middle-aged woman who touts little make up. Why? She has no need to.
The mere initial sight of this woman will tweak the depths of most men’s sensuality, except for one man.
Dr. Silkwood instinctively knows the upper tip of the three-sided ancient pyramid that she has just discovered and its inscriptions are invaluable to the international modern day archeological community, which literally worships this woman and her two decades of work.
The good doctor is beyond aware that this monumental archeological find is a once in-a-lifetime occurrence for any professional of her stature.
Little does she know, that she is about to meet the biggest challenge in her career, a Mr. Dolye Chambers; Army Core of Engineers Construction Chief. His orders from the Pentagon and the President of The United States command him to rebuild the Delta River’s dam, which was recently blown up by terrorist gorillas.
As the dam is rebuilt, the river’s waters will rise, once again submerging the newly discovered pyramid that Ms. Silkwood hopes to set a standard of her work on, to achieve a new height in her career.
Doyle Chambers is not about to take his orders from Washington D.C. lightly. To enable one final victory in this war and finally end terrorism’s last universal reign, completion of the dam’s reconstruction is imperative.
Aiding Doyle’s determination is his wise demeanor and stature, he’s slightly taller than the average man, but his tan skin and broad muscular shoulders set him apart from most men.
This accompanied by his dark hair and mustache along with a set of God given piercing blue grey eyes give him a Clark Gable look-alike advantage that would make any worthy adversary think twice before engaging him in any type of confrontation, verbal or otherwise.
While Chambers is a sturdy fifty years old plus in age, his hearty genetic lineage and General like posture easily leaves him looking like a man ten years his junior.
Thanks to urgent correspondence from the Middle East’s Embassy, Dr. Melanie Silkwood was flown in from England to assess the emptied river basin’s contours and bedrock for reconstruction of the new dam. Little did she know that she would discover the nearly totally buried pyramid, which in reality is the real love of her work, archeology.
Standing beside the pointed stone and its engraved hieroglyphs, Dr. Silkwood watches a jeep race towards the dam sites construction headquarters. The headquarters is housed in a large army tent close to the dam ruins.
From her vantage point, in the distance she can see that the driver of the open aired jeep wears a pair of shinny mirrored sunglasses. The man supports a dark mustache as he maneuvers through the sand dunes in the direction of the large tent leaving a trail of dust in the face of the early morning’s rising sun.
Dr. Silkwood dashes to her jeep and tosses the lantern that she used the night before to read the ancient inscriptions, into the back seat of the jeep.
Her hand grasps the ignition switch with key inserted. As she twists it forward with a determined expression on her face, the jeep’s engine roars and it’s wheels spin, throwing sand out from under all four tires. Within seconds Dr. Silkwood’s motorized chariot disappears over the first sand dune in the direction of the construction headquarters.
In moments Dr. Melanie Silkwood will for the first time, meet the United States Army’s Head Construction Engineer; Chief Doyle Chambers…
